Everything to Know About Wheels

Man invented the wheel and then dispersed to almost invention since. Carts, cars, beds, chairs, there is are endless examples of things people have added wheels to for more convenience. A not so known fact, though, is that there are many different types of wheels, including the popular caster wheels. The type of wheel a person chooses to put on something can actually have a great impact on the performance and durability of the item. This is why many people choose a caster fixture to attach their wheels to the device and have peace of mind that it is a sturdy connection.

What Are Caster Wheels?

Caster actually refers to the type of mount the wheel is attached to. The wheel can be a variety of materials, depending on the needs, such as plastic, metal, an alloy, or a mix of materials. The caster is typically a metal piece that attaches the wheel to the object. It connects through the center of the wheel to allow movement, and then ends with a platform-like piece of metal on top. This is the part that can be connected to other objects, usually by screwing them together, to connect the wheel and allow the object to roll.

Types of Casters

There are many different types of casters, but the most common are the fixed caster and the swivel caster. The fixed caster is true to its name and does not allow to move around on the mounting. It is beneficial for objects that only need to move forward or backward. The swivel caster is able to move around on the mounting, allowing a wider range of motion for objects that may need to turn or change direction. Some people combine these two types so an object turns from the front end and stays stable on the back, such as grocery carts.

Benefits of Casters

Caster wheels can help people in a number of different ways. First, they make an otherwise stationary object mobile, which can be helpful if it is something that needs to constantly transported from one place to another. It can also lessen effort required by people who have to move the object, which can decrease likelihood of injury. It can also help streamline difficult tasks by making it easier to maneuver objects and set things up where they need to be. Casters can make everyday tasks faster, easier, and safer.
